Accelerated Orthodontics
Every one would like to have straight teeth and a beautiful smile, but the time commitment is sometimes a restriction. Some new techniques have addressed these concerns and made treatment possible in 1/4 to 1/2 of the normal treatment time.
The first of these techniques is PAOO which stands for Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics. It was developed by Dr. William Wilcko. Dr. Wilcko and Dr. Wright were residents together at West Virginia University where they were both doing research on bone metabolism. Dr. Wilcko expanded on this research and with his brother (a periodontist) developed this unique treatment. It involves an outpatient surgical procedure by a periodontist. After which you will be seen by Dr. Wright every two weeks for wire adjustments. The outcome is as good if not better than traditional orthodontic treatment. The treatment time is usually 6 to 12 months.
There is also another technique that accelerates bone metabolism as well but is more localized called "Propel." It utilizes a small micro-osseous perforations (surgical incision) at the site in question to accelerate the bone metabolism. This is done by Dr. Wright under local anesthesia and takes about five minutes. It is very useful in select cases.
Acceledent is also available to increase the speed of tooth movement. It is among the new breakthroughs in Orthodontic technology to accelerate tooth movement. This device complements your orthodontic treatment and can increase the speed of tooth movement. Using this device that has Soft Pulse technology for 20 minutes a day using micro pulse vibrations on your teeth is what increases the speed of movement.
Please talk to Dr. Wright or his staff if this decrease in treatment time is important to you.
