Botox® and Fillers
Orthodontics, perhaps more than any other profession, has always had soft tissue facial aesthetics as a primary concern in the diagnosis and the treatment planning of every patient. The skeletal and dental support of the eyes, nose, mouth, jaws and lips are primary in everything that we do. Botox® and soft tissue fillers are a logical extension of this clinical interest. The lines around the eyes, forehead, mouth (smile lines) and lips are especially important.
Also, those who clinch and grind (particularly at night) can damage their teeth and jaw joints with the heavy forces they generate. There is no way to stop this from occurring altogether, but it can be limited by injecting Botox® into the muscles that are responsible for generating this force. The muscles still work properly but the force will be decreased resulting in less damage and pain.
